The National Healthcare Group’s (NHG) vision is “Adding years of healthy life”. This vision departs from merely healing the sick to the more difficult but infinitely more rewarding task of preventing illness and preserving health and quality of life.
NHG is a leader in public healthcare in Singapore, recognised at home and abroad for the quality of its medical expertise and facilities. Care is provided through an integrated network of primary healthcare polyclinics, acute care hospitals, national specialty centres, innovative virtual specialty centres and business divisions. Together, they bring a rich legacy of more than 300 years of medical expertise to our philosophy of patient-centric care.
With more than 9,000 staff, NHG aims to provide care that is patient-centric, accessible, seamless, comprehensive, appropriate and cost-effective.
The following are members of NHG:
The quest for quality in NHG is relentless. For us, as a healthcare institution, quality of care is paramount. Our hospitals and medical centres benchmark ourselves against world-class facilities globally to improve our systems for safer practices and better outcomes in patient care.
NHG is the first public healthcare group in Singapore to attain the prestigious Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation in November 2005. By 2008, all our institutions were JCI accreditated.
JCI is the international accreditation arm of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), USA. The JCI award represents a worldwide consensus on quality patient care. JCI has 197 core standards, 368 standards and 1032 measurable elements. JCI is dedicated to improving the quality, safety and efficiency of health care services around the globe. JCI's uniform, high standards for patient care and safety focus on access to care, assessment of patients, infection control, patient and family rights, and education. Standards also address facility management and safety, staff qualifications, quality improvement, organisation leadership, and management of information.
Our success is a result of the single-minded purpose of NHG to deliver quality patient care, despite the unique identity and strengths of each institution. During these audits, TTSH impressed with its ability to work together as a team in caring for patients in a cohesive and mutually respectful manner; and IMH was commended for its excellent competency assessment of nursing staff training, which is now recognised as a JCI best practice in the international arena.
Our institutions are also certified in ISO 9001:2000 (Quality Management Systems); ISO 14001:1996 (Environmental Management Systems); and ISO 18001:1999 (Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems).
These systems are in place to help us deliver quality care and service, provide a safe and fulfulling work environment and to be a responsible corporate citizen. It is a pledge of our commitment to our patient, staff and community.
NHG is awarded the Singapore Service Class, a prestigious membership that reflects our pledge towards service excellence and recognises our efforts to provide quality customer care to our patients.
Another recognition of our commitment to achieving business excellence is the Singapore Quality Class Business Excellence Framework. This award reinforces NHG’s commitment to apply an excellence model to adopt a total approach in managing people, processes and customers to achieve better business results.
